Since its opening in 2005, Luxembourg’s Grande‐Duchesse Joséphine‐Charlotte Concert Hall has become one of the most important concert halls in Europe. Architect Christian de Portzamparc’s initial wish was to mark visitors’ entrance into the world of music through a natural filter; this idea became reality in the form of rows of 827 facade columns made of white steel. Between the filter of columns and the central nucleus, a vast peristyle constitutes the foyer, enveloping the Grand Auditorium.

Designed around the concept of a «shoebox», the Grand Auditorium can welcome up to 1,500 listeners. To provide optimal acoustic conditions, eight towers of boxes are located around the stalls in an irregular fashion, contributing to uniform sound distribution. The awe‐inspiring Chamber Music Hall boasts a sensational design with its unorthodox shape and elegant curves.
