Puccini's tragic story of American imperialism and a family torn apart — relevant since its premiere over 100 years ago.

The Bayerische Staatsoper's production is revived this year with "Maltese Tenor" Joseph Calleja as the American soldier, Pinkerton and Kristine Opolais as "Madame Butterfly" Cio‐Cio‐San, whose son by the American, Pinkerton has come to claim.
