Conductor and violinist Candida Thompson, baritone Thomas Hampson and the Amsterdam Sinfonietta perform at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

Brahms' composed his 'Vier ernste Gesänge' as an expression of his feelings over the illness of his friend Clara Schumann. He first refused to have the songs performed, because they were too personal.
