Martha Graham Company

Sobre o Evento

Martha Graham founded her troupe in New York in 1926. A decade later she premiered Chronicle, the ballet which marked the entry of dance into contemporary culture, with a trend‐setting choreography that heralded a new era.

A few excerpts from Chronicle – written in opposition to war – are part of the historic programme that the Martha Graham Company is bringing to the Liceu. The bill also features: Errand into the Maze (1947), a version of the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur, seen from a woman's viewpoint; Diversion of Angels (1948), an homage to the vivid colours of Kandinsky's palette; and  Embattled Garden (1958), a reflection on sacred and profane love based on the legend of Lilith, Adam's apocryphal first wife.

Each choreography provides an illustration of the revolutionary language invented by Martha Graham, an outburst of energy and an innovative concept of the body and its relationship to space.
