Orquestra: Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra

The 'Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra' is a symphony orchestra of international renown, whose character has been shaped by several generations of musicians, longstanding collaboration with each of the six chief conductors, and the unique acoustic properties of the Concertgebouw’s main hall.

The Orchestra has gained its unique international position with its ‘velvet’ strings, ‘golden’ brass and the exceptional and personal timbre of the woodwinds. The musicians are the guardians of the playing culture that gives the Orchestra its unique sound and flexibility. The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra consists of 120 virtuosos who perform together at the highest level.

During the fifty years of Willem Mengelberg’s reign, a wide variety of composers such as Richard Strauss, Gustav Mahler, Claude Debussy and Igor Stravinsky conducted the Concertgebouw Orchestra several times. Celebrities such as Béla Bartók, Sergey Rachmaninoff and Sergey Prokofiev performed their own works as soloists. This crucial bond with contemporary composers was continued with Bruno Maderna, Peter Schat, Luciano Berio, Hans Werner Henze, Luigi Nono and John Adams, and is still RCO policy.

Violino, Violoncelo da Spalla: Janine Jansen

Born into a musical family, Dutch violinist Janine Jansen began the study of the music at the tender age of 6. She is internationally recognized today as a top violinist, and a truly exciting and versatile artist.

Ms. Jansen performed her London debut in November of 2002 with the Philharmonia Orchestra and Vladimir Ashkenazy. This was quickly followed by further invitations from many of the world’s most prestigious orchestras. She has recorded both chamber and solo concerts to great acclaim. When performing live Ms Jansen is known to be sometimes rather adventurous with emphasis on emotional accents. Ms. Jansen Jansen currently performs on the 1727 Stradivari 'Barrere' violin.

Condutor: Klaus Mäkelä

Concertgebouw

The Concertgebouw in Amsterdam was built as a result of a public campaign aimed at financing a new Philharmonic hall. A grand Neoclassical concert hall topped with a symbolic Apollo´s lyre, it opened in 1888. In the late 20th century the Concertgebouw was renovated in order to improve the acoustics and add more space for visitors. The magnificent organ, after almost a century of service, was also restored and modernised. The Concertgebouw hosts around 600 concerts every year, ranging from big symphonic performances to jazz and pop concerts. Conveniently located at the beautiful Museumplein (Museum Square) with the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museum right next to it, everyone will find something to their taste in one of the finest concert halls in the world!
