Saint‐Saëns' opéra fantastique is based on a libretto by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré, the librettists of Faust and Les Contes d’Hoffmann. A strange doctor offers the poor struggling painter Conrad a curious silver bell. Under the object's spell, the artist slowly loses the ability to distinguish art from reality, and launches the audience in a disturbingly beautiful journey, full of metamorphoses.
