Edita Gruberova will peform "Roberto Devereux" by Donizetti in a concert version at the magnificient Teatro Real in Madrid.

This fictional tale of the love of Elizabeth I for Count of Essex reflects one of the most tragic moments of the life of its composer, Gaetano Donizetti, as he wrote it after the death of his young wife who died at childbirth.

Master of bel canto and bridge between Rossini and Verdi, Donizetti, author of numerous historical court operas located in England to escape censorship, finds in the queen one of the best roles he composed.
