Benjamin Britten's War Requiem will be performed on the 100th anniversary of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria which lead to the outbreak of World War I. The Neue Preussische Philharmonie will be joined by renowned soloists, the Berlin Boys' Choir, and select Berlin choirs under the baton of Thomas Hennig at the Berlin Cathedral.
The Berliner Dom (Berlin Cathedral) is located on the historic 'Museum Island' and was rebuilt in 1905. It has a richly decorated interior and the magnificent Sauer organ, which was built at the same time as the cathedral. Today, the Sauer organ is the largest organ of the 'late Romantic' period.
The program offers excellent performances of classical music in the incomparable atmosphere of one of Europe's most impressive basilica cathedrals.
