The young Quatuor Ébène joins with the legendary Artemis Quartet for a delightful, tingling performance of Mendelssohn's Octet, that devilishly difficult work that the composer wrote at the age of 16. Schumann affirmed that the Octet's perfection had never been matched by such a young master.

Schubert's fifteenth and final quartet concludes the program with its alternating intimacy and symphonic grandeur.
