MIAGI Youth Orchestra at Concertgebouw + Drinks & Bites
Over het evenement
The MIAGI Youth Orchestra plays and dances off the roof to Stravinsky's The Firebird, Bernstein's Prelude, Fugue and Riffs, and Duncan Wards spectacular tribute to Nelson Mandela.
Stravinsky
In Stravinsky's The Firebird, a monstrous wizard holds a whole series of princesses in captivity. The hero, Crown Prince Ivan, wants to save them and can use the help of the mythical Firebird. An exciting Russian fairy tale, set to exciting music by Stravinsky. Today, the South African MIAGI Youth Orchestra is playing the suite from this very popular work.
MIAGI Youth Orchestra
MIAGI is an abbreviation of 'Music is a great investment'. True words, and the wonderful motto of an exceptional youth orchestra that was the hit of the Robeco SummerNights in 2014. Conductor Duncan Ward loves projects that offer more than just a great concert. He works with homeless people, toddlers and in this case with South African youths. MIAGI means that many of them end up in a completely different life. Ward praises the catchy energy of the orchestra. He chooses a work to go with it: Bernstein's dynamic 'jazz concert' Prelude, Fugue and Riffs. After Stravinsky's The Firebird, Wards' new composition Rainbow Beats is a tribute to Nelson Mandela. This spectacular work brings together African songs, lyrics by Mandela and quotations by Monteverdi. MIAGI plays and dances the roof off.
