Over het evenement
Immerse yourself in the stunning architecture of Seville's breathtaking Teatro de la Maestranza for the ultimate concert set to awake your understanding of classical music.
The tragedy of good intentions
With a spectacular production and stunning costumes, Ballet Monte Carlo dances the story of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet to the pulsating music of Sergei Prokofiev. This stunningly rejuvenating visual production changes the fulcrum of the play: the story focuses not on the pursuit of the rift between Capuletti and Montague, but on the tortured soul of Fray Lorenzo, the man whose good intentions ultimately lead to the death of the young lovers.
Jean‐Christophe Maillot's choreographies have been described around the world as 'extraordinarily beautiful, elegant and refined' or 'young and dynamic' and are a trademark of the Ballet de Monte Carlo, which Maillot made one of the best dance companies in Europe with over 400 performances.
The Royal Seville Symphony Orchestra (Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla — ROSS) interprets Prokofiev's brilliant score in a choreography of extraordinary cinematic power, in which the socio‐political conflict between two rival clans alternates with the passion of two teenagers and their own conflicting feelings.
The Monte Carlo Ballet is presided over by Her Royal Highness the Princess of Hanover.
