Bach never heard his Mass in its entirety, and the mystery of its chronology -- stretching from 1723 until 1748 -- remains with us to this day.

Regardless of its history, though, the enormous and moving work is a summit to be reached by the young countertenor‐turned‐conductor and his colleagues of the Pygmalion Ensemble.
