ラテン地区としても知られる歴史的なパリ5区の人里離れた一角にあるこの小さくて趣のある教会は、まさに隠れた宝石だ。1733年に真のコリント様式で建てられたこの教会は、19世紀後半にロベールとアルベール・ド・マンによって設立されたカトリック社会運動の中心となるまで、さまざまな修道会によって使用されていた。内部は、印象的な絵画のコレクションで古典的に装飾されている。 サン・テフレム教会は、クラシック音楽のコンサート会場として人気があり、その居心地の良い親密な雰囲気と素晴らしい音響は、地元の人々や観光客を魅了している。

ヨハン・セバスチャン・バッハ

バッハという名前と音楽家という言葉は、ドイツでは古くから同義語であった。しかし、ヨハン・セバスティアン・バッハは、天才的な作曲家であり、オルガン演奏の名手でもあった。彼は1685年3月31日、チューリンゲン州の小さな町アイゼナハに生まれた。10歳で孤児となった彼は、隣町でオルガニストをしていた兄ヨハン・クリストフに育てられた。兄は幼いヨハン・セバスティアンに音楽を教えた。その後、ルネブルクに移り住んだバッハは、教会学校に通い、17歳までにヴァイオリン、ヴィオラ、ピアノ、オルガンの演奏技術を習得した。 また、聖歌隊の歌い手としても活躍し、後に声が出なくなってからは、聖歌隊の助手になった。 1703年、バッハはヨハン・エルンスト3世の礼拝堂で宮廷音楽家として雇われた。そこで高い評判を得たバッハは、後にアルンシュタットの新教会のオルガニストに招かれ、そこで最高のオルガン作品を書いた。1723年にはライプツィヒに移り、聖トーマス教会の聖歌隊員となり、1750年に脳卒中で亡くなるまで過ごした。亡くなる年、彼は目の手術に失敗し、視力を失っていた。その苦しい時期に、彼の2番目の妻アンナ・マグダレーナは、彼が最後の曲を書くのを手伝った。バッハの芸術的遺産は膨大である。オラトリオ、カンタータ、ミサ曲、モテット、オルガン、ピアノ、ヴァイオリンのための音楽など、当時のあらゆるジャンルの作品を生み出した。

    The performance was breathtaking. Timothée was astounding, the acoustics and the candlelight inside the church made the music that much more enchanting‐ I could feel the cello from the top of my head to the tips of my toes. It was an electric experience.

    Great acoustics and outstanding performance. Played three of the six cello suites, which was OK with my wife as she tends to nod off after an hour or so of live classical music :) Look forward to seeing another concert here!

    Très très beau concert à l’église Saint‐Ephrem, d’une grande simplicité. Trois suites de Bach pour violoncelle, magnifiquement exécutées. Un soliste généreux et très doué. On a même eu droit à un rappel!

    薄暗くなった教会祭壇に蝋燭の灯りがともされ、演奏開始。チェロ独奏、自らの指は全くみることなく難解な曲を何曲も演奏で神々しかった。教会が宿泊先の近くでよかったです。
