Gewandhausorchester, Manfred Honeck con Francesco Piemontesi

La Leipzig Gewandhausorchester è una orchestra tedesca con sede a Lipsia, in Germania. Prende il nome la sala da concerto in cui ha sede, la Gewandhaus.

L'orchestra ha l'orgolgio di poter essere definita la più antica organizzazione stabile musicale in Europa. Nel XIX secolo, Felix Mendelssohn fu il maestro di cappella.

Più tardi alcuni tra i dirttori musicali sono stati  Arthur Nikisch, Wilhelm Furtwängler, Bruno Walter, Vaclav Neumann, e  tra il 1970 il 1996 Kurt Masur. Nel 1998, Herbert Blomstedt ha assunto la carica fino al 2005 e il suo successore è Riccardo Chailly.

Austrian conductor Manfred Honeck was violinist with the Vienna Philharmonic for 10 years, and embarked on his conducting career as assistant to Claudio Abbado at the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra. Subsequently, he was engaged by the Zurich Opera House, served as Music Director at the Norwegian National Opera in Oslo, was Music Director of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and has since 2008 been Principal Guest Conductor of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. A highly sought‐after conductor, other engagements have led Honeck to guest conduct numerous preeminent orchestras as well as opera houses.
