Zarzuelas — Spain's classical songs in the Crypt
Vienna, Peterskirche — Krypta
About the Event
The zarzuela has musically reflected Spain's love and suffering for over 400 years. Its development is closely intertwined with the typical character of Madrid, where numerous works of this captivating musical genre were created. They date back to the 17th century, when the royal court met with local artists in the Palacio de la Zarzuela. These celebrations gave rise to the zarzuela, which is considered THE Spanish opera genre .
The Spanish tenor Sergio Tallo‐Torres, an audience favorite from the Ensemble OPER in the KRYPTA, and the well‐known bel canto soprano Jegyung Yang masterfully know how to inflame their audience with passion and pathos.
Ekaterina Nokkert at the piano is the perfect complement for an unforgettable concert experience.
Located deep beneath St. Peter's Church in Vienna, the extraordinary concert hall provides special access to classical music for newcomers and connoisseurs alike. The crypt is pleasantly temperate at any time of year.
