Winterreise by Franz Schubert in Krypta, Peterskirche
Vienna, Peterskirche — Krypta
About the Event
Franz Schubert's profound masterpiece of romantic song writing is particularly moving in the atmospheric setting of the crypt of St. Peter's Church. For his “Winterreise”, Schubert set 24 songs to music based on poems by Wilhelm Müller about the wanderer who gave up everything but follows his longing.
The Austrian bass‐baritone Florian Pejrimovsky is one of Vienna's audience favorites. Known for roles such as Scarpia (“Tosca”), Germont (“La Traviata”) or in the title role of Rigoletto, he convinces with a fine sense and expression for the demanding nuances in the joint recital with Ekaterina Nokkert at the piano.
Established as the smallest theater in Austria, the song recitals and opera performances are impressive due to their high quality. Located deep beneath Vienna's St. Peter's Church, this extraordinary venue offers a personal experience unlike any other.
