Ukrainian National Opera Ballet: The Snow Queen at the Champs‐Elysées
Paris, Théâtre des Champs‐Élysées — Main Hall
About the Event
A new arrival from the Ukrainian National Opera Ballet and the enchantment of The Snow Queen after Andersen.
The Snow Queen
New production | French premiere
Ballet in two acts, based on the fairy tale of the same name by Hans Christian Andersen
The arrival of the Ukrainian National Opera's ballet and orchestra in December 2022 had been one of the highlights of the Theatre's life over the past few seasons. Each performance, and especially the last one, was met with great emotion by artists, Theatre staff and audiences alike, as the entire auditorium rose to its feet to the sound of the Ukrainian anthem. Since then, living and working conditions in Kiev have remained difficult for Ukrainians, but the troupe has held firm, and it's with pride and pleasure that we renew our support and welcome them back for the festive season. They will be presenting The Snow Queen, adapted from Andersen's fairy tale of the same name, with music by Grieg, Massenet, Offenbach, Johann Strauss and Berlioz. This choreographic version is by Aniko Rekhviashvili, who in 2015 took up the challenge of telling the story of young Gerda and her struggle against an evil, icy enemy. Despite its theme, this is an evening of magic and enchantment.
