Teatro Filarmonico di Verona: Prokofiev Nevsky
Verona, Teatro Filarmonico — main
About the Event
Experience the enchanting melodies of classical composers Maurice Ravel and Sergei Prokofiev at the esteemed and globally acclaimed Teatro Filarmonico in Verona. The year 2025 celebrates the 150th birth anniversary of Maurice Ravel, an extraordinary composer known for his sophisticated orchestration. Attendees will be mesmerized by 'La Valse,' a choreographic poem depicting a waltz that transforms from charming to haunting, echoing the end of the Belle Époque post‐World War I. Also featured is Ravel’s iconic 'Boléro,' known for its captivating repetition of a sinuous melody against a backdrop of relentless snare drum, escalating into a crescendo of sound and color.
Ten years following 'Boléro,' Russia welcomed back the gifted composer and pianist Sergei Prokofiev, fresh from a tour in the United States that included a stint in Hollywood, then the heart of film production. Inspired by the cinematic arts, he readily agreed to score the soundtrack for Sergei Eisenstein's 'Alexander Nevsky,' a film about Russia's national hero. This score is reborn in a striking cantata performed by the full‐force Orchestra and Choir of the Fondazione Arena, conducted by the proficient Maestro Marco Angius and featuring the extraordinary voice of opera sensation Anita Rachvelishvili.
