National Theater Munich
Information, Schedule and Tickets
The National Theater of Munich (German: Nationaltheater München) is the home of the Bavarian State Opera and the Bavarian State Ballet. Originally built in 1818 after designs of Karl von Fischer, the building was destroyed by a fire in 1823. The second theater, designed by Leo von Kienzle and built in 1825, was destroyed during World War II. After the war it was decided not to build a new theater, but to reconstruct the original Neo‐Classical design. The National Theater saw the premières of many significant operas, including Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, Das Rheingold and Die Walküre.
