Schuberts Winterreise at Philharmonie Berlin
Berlin, Philharmonie Berlin — Kammermusiksaal
About the Event
The Monteverdi Choir Hamburg presents Franz Schubert's Winterreise under the direction of Antonius Adamske to mark its 70th anniversary.
“Stranger I have moved in, stranger I move out again.” — Experience Schubert's famous collection of poetic art songs, which tell of a winter wanderer's vague journey.
In Gregor Meyer's innovative version for baritone, choir and piano, which has already been widely acclaimed throughout Germany, the carefully considered arrangements give the choir a new, unique position. They preserve the extraordinary effect of the two original performers, baritone and piano.
With the song cycle Winterreise, composed in 1827, Franz Schubert (1797‐1828) wrote not only one of his last works, but also one of the most widely received of the Romantic period. The 24 songs, both as a whole and individually, undoubtedly represent a high point of the art song. In Winterreise, which is based exclusively on poems by Wilhelm Müller (1794‐1824), Schubert achieves the greatest symbiosis of the spoken word and its tonal interpretation, which at the same time places the highest demands on the interpreter. This is not least due to the ambiguity of Müller's texts.
The Monteverdi Choir Hamburg is the oldest ensemble at the University of Hamburg and is one of the most prestigious German choirs. Pioneering recordings and CDs as well as numerous first prizes at competitions have made the choir internationally renowned, and concert tours have taken it all over the world.
