Pictures at an Exhibition at Municipal House
Prague, Municipal House (Obecní dum) — Smetana Hall
About the Event
Tomáš Brauner and the Prague Symphony Orchestra have consistently cared for the remarkable work of Karel Husa, whose fame we are not yet able to fully appreciate in the Czech basin. After all, he wrote his violin concerto commissioned by the New York Philharmonic to celebrate its 150th anniversary. The world premiere in May 1993 was given by none less than Kurt Masur and the orchestra's concertmaster Glenn Dicterow. The fiendishly demanding violin part will be taken up in the Czech premiere by the similarly refined virtuoso Milan Paľa. As a counterbalance, the program features the famous Pictures at an Exhibition, a challenge for any orchestra, which joyfully journeys with the audience to the majestic Great Gate of Kiev.
