Pavel Haas Quartet at Church of St. Simon and St. Jude
Prague, Church of St. Simon and Jude (Kostel sv. Šimona a Judy) — Main concert hall
About the Event
Since the Pavel Haas Quartet's first guest appearance in our chamber ranks in April 2013, much has indeed happened. For example, the BBC Music Magazine recently ranked the Pavel Haas Quartet among the 10 best string quartets of all time, highlighting its impressive style and beautiful sound as well as its dedication and uniqueness. The members of the quartet go their own way while still relating to the Czech Jewish composer Pavel Haas, his musical legacy and tragic fate. This is the line to another remarkable Jewish composer, Erwin Schulhoff, and also to Brno‐born Erich Wolfgang Korngold, who fortunately escaped destruction in Europe, as did Bohuslav Martinů. Their quartets as contemporaries will meet under the patronage of Simon and Jude.
Program
- Erwin Schulhoff – Five Pieces for String Quartet
- Bohuslav Martinů – String Quartet No. 3
- Bohuslav Martinů – String Quartet No. 5
- Erich Wolfgang Korngold – String Quartet No. 2 in E‐flat Major op. 26
