Paquita: Paris Opera Ballet
Paris, Opéra Bastille — Main Auditorium
About the Event
Be amazed by the luxurious sets and vibrant costumes in this dazzling show set in 19th century Spain: The Paris Opera Ballet presents 'Paquita', a two‐act ballet with a libretto by Paul Foucher and Joseph Mazilier. Joseph Mazilier's 'Paquita' captivated Théophile Gautier at its premiere at the Paris Opera in 1846. The ballet was later brought to Russia by Marius Petipa in 1882, after which it faded from the Opera stage until Pierre Lacotte lovingly restored it in 2001. Intrigue, abduction, and hidden family secrets are woven throughout this captivating work, where character dance and pantomime blend seamlessly with precise technique and virtuosic style.
