About the Event
For the second annual collaboration with The World Music Institute, duo Sabîl premieres their new album, Tawaf, in a major 'Music Before 1800' debut.
Tawaf means ‘to go around.’ It is one of the principal rites of visiting Mecca, referring to seven complete circles that pilgrims walk around The Kaaba.
Born in Palestine, Ahmad Al Khatib is the recognised successor to oud master, Ahmad Abdel Qasem. Driven by Youssef Hbeisch’s spellbinding percussion, they present a promising vision for Arab music sourced in tradition. Hear their new recording with essential cellist Vincent Ségal in its North American debut.
