Orchestra della Toscana – Roberto Bisatti
Florence, Teatro Verdi — main
About the Event
Roberto Bisatti leads the Orchestra della Toscana in a profound exploration of death and nature through Samuel Barber's iconic 'Adagio for Strings' and Shostakovich's dramatic 14th Symphony. Eleven reflections on death and a naturalistic scene are highlighted in the concert conducted by Riccardo Bisatti, principal guest conductor of the 'Rossini' Orchestra of Pesaro. The program includes a naturalistic view inspired by a passage from Virgil’s Georgics, as described by Samuel Barber in his Adagio for Strings, one of the most famous pieces in American classical music. Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 14 is portrayed as an introspective Soviet requiem for string chamber orchestra and percussion, with two vocal soloists depicting death as inevitable, tragic, cruel, and absurd.
The concert features soprano Alessia Panza, who has performed with prestigious orchestras such as the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonics, and bass Fabrizio Beggi, an internationally recognized artist. Shostakovich intended Symphony No. 14 to serve as a farewell to life and a testament to the wonders of life, as expressed by the composer himself at age sixty‐three.
