Orchestra della Toscana – Jaume Santonja & Kerson Leong
Florence, Teatro Verdi — main
About the Event
Jaume Santonja conducts the Orchestra della Toscana in a captivating program featuring Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto with Canadian violinist Kerson Leong, followed by Schubert's 'Tragic Symphony.' It is a thrilling lineup showcasing some of the most exciting pieces in the violin repertoire.
The evening's centerpiece is Pëtr Il'ič Čajkovskij's Violin Concerto Op.35, a composition known for its melodic richness, brilliant orchestration, and intense lyricism. Premiered in 1881 by Adolf Brodsky, the concerto faced harsh criticism, particularly from the renowned critic Eduard Hanslick. However, it remains a dazzling showcase for technical virtuosity, offering the soloist ample opportunities to shine.
Canadian violinist Kerson Leong, hailed as one of the greatest violinists, tackles the challenging concerto with finesse. The program continues with Franz Schubert's Fourth Symphony, dubbed the 'Tragic,' with a serene tone following its melancholic introduction. Opening the concert is a new piece commissioned from composer Annachiara Gedda, adding a contemporary touch to the evening's classical repertoire.
Program
- Annachiara Gedda – Voci senza Voce (Voiceless Voices)
