Orchestra della Toscana – Diego Ceretta & Federico Colli
Florence, Teatro Verdi — main
About the Event
Principal conductor Diego Ceretta and pianist Federico Colli collaborate to present a program featuring Schumann's Piano Concerto, Prokofiev’s 'Classical Symphony', and Schoenberg’s Chamber Symphony. This season marks the third appearance of our principal conductor, Diego Ceretta. At the core of the program is Robert Schumann's Piano Concerto, a blend of symphony, concerto, and sonata aiming to integrate the piano and orchestra harmoniously, with Federico Colli as the soloist – known for his unconventional interpretations and philosophical approach to music‐making.
The second part of the program showcases diverse aspects of 20th‐century music. Sergei Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony reminisces Vienna during Haydn and Mozart with influences from the October Revolution. On the other hand, Arnold Schoenberg’s Chamber Symphony No. 2, composed without his twelve‐tone method, was initiated during Viennese Expressionism, left unfinished for years, and eventually completed in the USA to escape Nazi persecution.
