La valse & La mer at Municipal House
Prague, Municipal House (Obecní dum) — Smetana Hall
About the Event
Like an Art Nouveau ship, the Municipal House is cradled on the shores of France. The waves slowly emerge from the silence, leap joyfully over each other and suddenly calm down. In a gust of wind, they rise again and break into a deafening fortissimo, only to recede. The waves of Debussy's The Sea. A familiar waltz rhythm penetrates their murmur, which gradually becomes a thunder. Then Esther Pavlova comes on board and Ravel's storm is replaced by her tender mezzo‐soprano in the songs of Summer Nights. With the charismatic Sascha Goetzel, chief conductor in France and Canada, we certainly won't drown in the waters of the French repertoire. One more sip of wine and Summer Nights can begin.
