Following rave reviews and sold‐out performances in 2024, our new production of La Traviata returns to the Sydney Opera House for a special encore season. Violetta, a coveted courtesan and the toast of Paris, meets the ardent Alfredo and her life changes forever, sparking new questions about who she truly is beyond the glittering salon.
Verdi's music for La Traviata, from the vivacious chorus of the famous ‘Brindisi’ to Violetta’s soaring ‘Sempre libera,’ offers a thrilling and emotional experience that will captivate you from beginning to end. Director Sarah Giles brings Violetta’s inner world center stage, showcasing the heartache behind the glamour in a glittering staging.
Charles Davis’ set highlights Violetta’s private turmoil within the midst of spectacular crowd scenes, while his stunning gowns reflect the silhouettes of the Victorian era with a touch of 20th‐century couture. Rising star Samantha Clarke reprises her awe‐inspiring performance as Violetta, supported by a cast of talented local performers.
