Julia Fischer & Jan Lisiecki
About the Event
Piano and violin — two instruments that play a leading role in Julia Fischer's life. She has been one of the world's top violinists for 20 years now — and can look back on a successful career as a pianist “on the side”, in which she has performed famous violin and piano concertos one after the other in a single evening. She has won several awards, “with such a strong presence, such elegant virtuosity and so far removed from any trace of sentimentality”, wrote the Neue Zürcher Zeitung.
Julia Fischer comes to the Chamber Music Hall with just her violin. This leaves room for another exceptional artist at her side: like Fischer, Jan Lisiecki began his career as a “child prodigy”. Today, the Canadian pianist is regarded as a master of poetic nuances and shades. We can therefore expect a top‐class duo evening in which two exceptional artists will play virtuoso chamber music together.
Philharmonie Berlin
The Philharmonie is a concert hall opened in 1963 in West Berlin. It is considered the musical heart of the German capital, as well as the new urban centre after the fall of the infamous Berlin Wall. Its distinctive bright yellow exterior and unusual tent‐like shape quickly made it a city landmark. The surprising design and architecture were initially viewed negatively by many, but the Philharmonie is now considered a model for concert halls worldwide. The architect, Hans Scharoun, aimed to design a concert hall in which the focal point — the musicians on the concert platform — is equally visible from every seat, an aim that gave rise to the hall's unusual shape. Since its inauguration, the Berliner Philharmonie has hosted numerous concerts, often featuring acclaimed soloists and conductors.
