Il Viaggio, Dante: Paris Opera
Paris, Palais Garnier
About the Event
A mesmerizing ode to beauty and salvation, Dante's Divine Comedy is a timeless masterpiece of Italian literature and a cornerstone of European culture. Pascal Dusapin and librettist Frédéric Boyer boldly accept the challenge of adapting Dante's epic, guiding the poet through the ages in search of his beloved Beatrice, who has passed away prematurely.
From the depths of hell, where Lucifer awaits, to the radiant paradise of triumphant light, Dante's inner quest resonates as a profound reflection of our shared humanity. With both organ and glass harmonica, Il Viaggio, Dante immerses audiences in the poet's journey, paying homage to Dante's poetic form in the Italian language. Following its acclaimed premiere at the Aix‐en‐Provence Festival in 2022, the opera now joins the esteemed Paris Opera repertoire.
Claus Guth's visionary direction weaves together elements of fantasy and reality, life and death, culminating in the radiant smile of Beatrice.
