I Virtuosi Italiani: Treasures of Venetian Baroque
About the Event
In this highly‐anticipated concert, hear the mellifluous sounds of classical music by Antonio Vivaldi, Tomaso Giovanni Albinoni, Giovanni Alberto Ristori, Alessandro Marcello, Giovanni Benedetto Platti and Diogenio Bigaglia at Verona's treasured and world‐renowned San Pietro in Monastero.
The program encompasses the desire to be able to explore the expressive potential of the oboe in early 18th century Italy, a period when composers such as Telemann, Vivaldi, Bach, Haendel and Scarlatti were conquering the music world.
And Venice is definitely the city considered the capital of Baroque music, or at least the city of great composers such as Vivaldi, Albinoni, and Marcello who composed famous oboe concertos.
But there are other lesser‐known composers, Venetian and otherwise, (Bigaglia, Elmi, Ristori, Platti) who composed oboe concertos in the same period that certainly deserve proper attention and consideration.
