G.B.Pergolesi's Stabat Mater is his last work, his masterpiece completed shortly before his death at only 26 years of age.
Called by Vincenzo Bellini “The Poem of Sorrow,” the Stabat Mater is a sacred composition based on the text of a 13th‐century prayer by Jacopone da Todi , addressed to the Virgin Mary mother of Jesus Christ.
Pergolesi through his music wants to represent The strength of a mother and the absolute grief in the face of the death of her son.
