Hayato Sumino (»Cateen«)
Berlin, Philharmonie Berlin — Kammermusiksaal
About the Event
Is Hayato Sumino an influencer? 1.3 million followers on YouTube give a clear answer. The young Japanese musician makes the most of his influence: under the stage name “Cateen”, his virtuoso piano playing in the virtual world inspires people who would otherwise hardly come into contact with classical music.
He is a sensation in Asia, and not just on the Internet. Concert halls are sold out, most recently for 24 recitals on a tour of Japan. The twenty‐something has also proven his class on the conventional path: in 2018 he won the Grand Prix at the PTNA Piano Competition, in 2021 he reached the semi‐finals of the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, and he has just signed an exclusive contract with Sony Classical.
At his solo recital in the Chamber Music Hall, he will play works by Bach, Scriabin and Kapustin, as well as his own interpretation of Ravel's “Boléro” and a selection of his own compositions. YouTube star, piano virtuoso, composer: his versatility is surprisingly still not outlined by this. Hayato Sumino studied engineering at the University of Tokyo and researched music information processing. High time to get to know this amazing young man.
