Gewandhausorchester, Tugan Sokhiev: Debussy, Prokofiev, Chausson at Gewandhaus
About the Event
In Leipzig's beloved Gewandhaus, hear the Gewandhaus Orchestra and pianist Yulianna Avdeeva under the baton of Tugan Sokhiev for a captivating performance of works by Debussy, Prokofiev and Chausson.
Ernest Chausson was an all‐rounder, gifted in literature, drawing and music. Chausson's enthusiasm for Wagner is evident in his darkly colored, passionate music. Chausson became close friends with Claude Debussy, seven years his junior, whose Prélude à l'après‐midi d'un faune of 1894 was a key work of the incipient modern era.
The overwhelming success of his 3rd Piano Concerto in Paris prompted Prokofiev to make the city the center of his eventful life for several years. It's easy to see why Parisians couldn't get enough of the mischievous, inventive, sparkling work.
