About the Event

Dive into the mesmerizing architecture of Dresden's Kulturpalast for a supreme concert experience that promises to deepen your appreciation of classical music. During the Cold War era, the iconic performance by Herbert von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic at the inaugural Dresden Music Festival in 1978 became legendary. Post the Berlin Wall’s collapse, numerous performances ensued under the batons of subsequent music directors. Since the season of 2019/20, Kirill Petrenko has assumed the role of principal conductor and artistic director for this exceptional orchestra, acclaimed as the finest globally by both audiences and critics. The Dresden Music Festival is delighted that the orchestra, under this nearly perfect conductor‐orchestra partnership now five years old, will perform in Dresden. Albrecht Mayer, the principal oboist with the Berliners since 1992, is celebrated globally for his “divine spark” sound. The festival's program will be revealed at the commencement of the Dresden Music Festival in 2025 – expect a thrilling blend of modern and classic compositions. Anticipate a memorable evening at the Kulturpalast.

Peter Tchaikovsky, a frequent guest of the Philharmonic Society, enthused after a concert:

"The splendid Philharmonic Orchestra in Berlin possesses a special quality, for which I can find no more appropriate expression than elasticity. They have the capacity to adapt themselves to the dimensions of a Berlioz or a Liszt, and of reproducing with equal mastery the variegated arabesques of the former and the thunderous cannonades of the latter — yet they are able to exercise the restraint called for by the gentleness of a Haydn…. The members of the Philharmonic Orchestra do not work in the theaters and are therefore not worn out and exhausted. Moreover, they are a self‐governing body, they play for their own benefit and not for an entrepreneur who takes the lion's share of the profits for himself. The coincidence of these favorable and exceptional conditions naturally contributes to the harmony of the artistic performance…"
