Dresdner Musikfestspiele: Israel Philharmonic Orchestra — Münchner Philharmoniker — Shani
Dresden, Kreuzkirche Dresden — Main Hall
About the Event
Experience the harmonious tones of Gustav Mahler and Tzvi Avni in the cherished, internationally acclaimed Kreuzkirche Dresden at this eagerly awaited concert.
During an evening devoted to harmony, Israeli maestro Lahav Shani unites two premier orchestras, the Munich Philharmonic and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, in Kreuzkirche's sacred space. This event not only commemorates the 80th anniversary of World War II's end and the emancipation from Nazi oppression, but it also highlights the emergence of a reconciliatory narrative between Germany and Israel. The concert's selection reflects the intertwined histories of the two nations through its chosen composers. Born in Saarbrücken in 1925 and migrated to Palestine in 1935, Tzvi Avni offers a poignant musical invocation. Avni, a pupil of Paul Ben‐Haim who was himself mentored by Gustav Mahler’s close colleague Bruno Walter, connects us to Mahler’s “Tragic Symphony.” In this symphony, arguably more than any other, the full spectrum of human emotion unfolds through its orchestration.
