Dresdner Musikfestspiele: Fang — Vogler — NHK Symphony Orchestra — Luisi
Dresden, Kulturpalast — Main Hall
About the Event
Experience the enchanting tones of classical music by Joseph Haydn and Gustav Mahler at Dresden’s esteemed Kulturpalast, a venue celebrated globally.
This opening concert heralds the longstanding musical camaraderie between Jan Vogler and Fabio Luisi. Their arrival, accompanied by a renowned Japanese orchestra for the Dresden Music Festival, promises a dazzling evening. This performance pairs a seminal work of cello repertoire, Joseph Haydn's Cello Concerto No. 1, discovered in Prague's National Museum in 1961, with Gustav Mahler’s Fourth Symphony. As interpreted by festival director Jan Vogler, the concerto promises an exquisite rendition. Mahler's symphony paints a transcendent vision of paradise in its final movement through the Wunderhorn poem “Das himmlische Leben.” However, appearances are deceptive as this celestial scenario has its disruptions, an aspect the skilled, Mahler‐seasoned orchestra will distinctly reveal. The soprano soloist, Ying Fang, hailing from Ningbo, China, brings her international acclaim from pivotal opera stages globally back to her rich educational roots from Shanghai Conservatory and Juilliard School.
