Dresdner Musikfestspiele: Brentano String Quartet
Dresden, Palais im Großen Garten — Main Hall
About the Event
An enchanting evening of chamber music awaits with the illustrious Brentano String Quartet.
Esteemed for their allusion to Beethoven's "immortal beloved," Antonie Brentano, the Brentano String Quartet enchants with their synchronized performance, flawless technique, and dynamic expression. By 2025, this celebrated US‐American ensemble will grace the stage at the Dresden Music Festival, presenting a newly commissioned piece by acclaimed composer Lei Liang. Originally from China and now a US resident, Liang is renowned as a revolutionary force in contemporary music. The event will also feature Beethoven's Opus 18/6, known as "La Malinconia" ("Melancholy"), which musicologist Joseph Kerman described as a "small harmonic labyrinth," notable for its unusually slow Adagio opening in the final movement. The performance will culminate with Johannes Brahms' Third String Quartet, whose Andante movement ranks among the composer’s most serene creations.
