About the Event
“His music is like a Persian carpet to me. Not only beautiful and overwhelming, but also of great complexity, of intellect, full of tragedy.” And it raises questions with which the composer does not leave you alone, but gently accompanies the listener through them. The pianist Kathia Buniatishvili speaks of Sergei Rachmaninov with great tenderness and love — how could it be otherwise, as there are many parallels between the Georgian artist and the music of the Russian composer. Full of energy, sometimes oscillating between drama and infinite melancholy, of great reflection and seductive charm, highly virtuosic and technically brilliant — but above all, the music and the pianist are both one thing: tremendously alive.
Buniatishvili says of her art: “You need solitude, even difficult moments, in order to be creative. Artistic things don't just happen, there are battles to be fought” (concerti). Together with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra under the baton of its long‐standing chief conductor Fabio Luisi, she will have the opportunity in January to tackle this highly productive and irresistible artistic exploration of Rachmaninov's Third Piano Concerto.
