About the Event

Both the music of the golden age of polyphony, very early sounds and the music of our time has been on Ensemble Hermes' standard. In the 15 years of its existence, the ensemble has shown how diverse and unheard it can make polyphony sound. We would like to open the 2025 anniversary year with a bird's‐eye view of polyphony for 1,000 years. With some highlights of recent years, such as by Josquin and Jean Mouton, but also with new examples of early music and polyphony. Such as by Hildegard and Perotinus. And always in combination with polyphony‐inspired music from our time.

Ensemble Hermes focuses on the authentic performance of 16th‐century polyphony and also performs contemporary music related to polyphony. The project ensemble consists of experienced amateurs as well as music students and professional musicians. During performances, singers make music around a large music stand specially designed and made for this ensemble. Whenever possible, singing is done from copies of the original manuscripts. To this end, all singers have mastered the so‐called mensural notation commonly used in manuscripts. Check out the Ensemble Hermes website for more information about the choir.
