Concerts Littéraires: If there's music for that… © M. Vasalis & various composers
Amsterdam, De Waalse Kerk
About the Event
Immerse yourself in the stunning architecture of Amsterdam's breathtaking De Waalse Kerk for the ultimate concert set to awake your understanding of music.
Vasalis, the pseudonym of psychiatrist Margaretha Drooglever Fortuyn, is one of the most widely read poets in Dutch literature. Despite her small oeuvre, her work inspired Dutch composers Leo Samama, Rita Hijmans and Lowell Dykstra, and Fleming Bart van Kerchove to set her poems to music. This literary concert, part of pianist Biljana Urban's project Concerts Littéraire, is the ultimate fusion of music and literature. This afternoon you will hear, among others, Lous Mijnssen — Fortuyn, Vasalis' daughter, recite works by her mother.
Program
Rita Hijmans: From “I am an ocean of waiting” for soprano, flute and piano
Leo Samama: If there is music for that, Diep in mijzelf (choice from Four Songs, Donemus 1976) for soprano and piano
