About the Event

Immerse yourself in the stunning architecture of Leipzig's breathtaking Peterskirche for the ultimate concert set to awake your understanding of classical music.
The Leipzig Philharmonic Orchestra will celebrate the Leipzig anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution with a unique concert on October 9, 2024. We welcome as a special guest and contemporary witness Wolf Biermann, who will open the evening with a speech and a personal song.

The Leipzig Philharmonic and its principal conductor Michael Koehler have chosen Beethoven's Ninth Symphony for the evening, the work that Leonard Bernstein also performed in Berlin in 1989 to mark the fall of the Berlin Wall. In memory of the fall of '89, it was especially the citizens of Leipzig who made the peaceful course of the revolution possible. A top‐class quartet of soloists with Christiane Libor, Carolin Masur, Andre Khamasmie, Stephan Klemm and the Halle Opera Chorus, the Philharmonic Chorus and the Langenbernsdorf Singing Society promise a special musical treat.
