Volksoper Vienna: Die Csárdásfürstin
Vienna, Volksoper Wien — Main Hall
About the Event
Immerse yourself in the captivating sounds of Emmerich Kálmán’s Die Csárdásfürstin, showcased at the stunning Volksoper in Vienna.
The renowned chansonnière Sylva faces prohibition from marrying her aristocratic suitor Edwin. His parents intervene, ensuring he is conscripted and engaged to a countess instead. However, Sylva makes a dramatic appearance at their engagement celebration…
The conception of Csárdásfürstin dates back to 1914, but was delayed by the First World War. The eventual production poignantly mirrors the “Great War” and the impending demise of the monarchy in multiple aspects. In this interpretation, director Johannes Erath contemplates the essence of theater in challenging times, questioning, “Why do we still need theater when the world is on the brink? Why do we recognize the value of things only after they are gone? Can one create a theater experience that truly bewitches every spectator?”
