About the Event
Experience classical music like never before in this astonishing performance of Bach's Christmas Oratorio at Vienna's remarkable St. Stephen's Cathedral.
“Jauchzet, frohlocket!” — there is hardly a more perfect way to embrace the spirit of the approaching Christmas season than with J. S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio. The renowned period instrument ensemble Barucco invites you on a musical voyage through the joyful and poignant Christmas narrative.
Bach's Christmas Oratorio stands as one of the most cherished Christmas compositions of all time. By weaving together elements from his earlier works and adapting both text and melody, Bach crafted an unforgettable masterpiece filled with musical splendor and festive grace, offering both charm and contemplative beauty. The first three cantatas, highlighted here, were specifically composed for the Christmas season, vividly portraying the birth of Jesus, the shepherds' adoration, and the arrival of the three wise men.
The Original Sound Orchestra, along with the Barucco vocal ensemble and led by Heinz Ferlesch, will perform at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna. Reflecting Bach's era, the Barucco singers will step forth from the ensemble for solo parts, merging choir and solo roles in an exciting 18th‐century performance style. This vocal ensemble consists of esteemed soloists who blend vocal virtuosity with emotive expression and an in‐depth understanding of historical performance techniques.
Allow Bach's exquisite music to transport you into the pre‐Christmas spirit.
