Classic in the Crypt: Bach, Chopin, Verdi, etc. Piano Concerto for the Left Hand
Vienna, Peterskirche — Krypta
About the Event
An extraordinary destiny determined the international career of the Japanese pianist Yasuyo Segawa. At the age of 17, she lost the functions of her right hand due to focal dystonia. However, her great talent and strong will prevailed: she concentrated on playing the piano with her left hand and thus won 12 international awards. In fact, there are numerous works that have been composed or arranged in this way.
Her impressive virtuosity and orchestral sound make it easy to forget that she is “only” playing with one hand. A fascinating, unforgettable experience for the listener.
As the smallest opera and classical theater in Austria, the performances in the crypt captivate audiences with their intensity and high quality. Located deep below St. Peter's Church in Vienna, the intimate hall offers a personal experience and attracts guests from all over the world.
The crypt is pleasantly tempered in every season.
