Teatro Filarmonico di Verona: Shostakovich 50
Verona, Teatro Filarmonico — main
About the Event
Immerse yourself in an extraordinary celebration of classical music featuring the works of Dmitri Dmitriyevich Shostakovich at the stunning Teatro Filarmonico in Verona. The Arena Foundation's Symphonic Season 2025 honors the brilliance of Dmitry Šostakovič (1906‐1975), marking 50 years since his passing.
A deeply private and conflicted individual, Šostakovič became the voice of Soviet music. Through his symphonies, operas, quartets, concertos, and more, he adeptly reflected the turbulence and tension of his times. Highlights in Verona include the first performances of his profound Second Cello Concerto, a piece dedicated to his friend Rostropovič, and his final symphony, the memorable Fifteenth, which weaves together elements of dreams, disillusionment, and the grotesque, with nods to Rossini, Glinka, and Wagner.
Featuring the remarkable talent of cello prodigy Ettore Pagano and under the skilled baton of the versatile Dmitri Jurowski.
