Jeanne d'Arc: Estonian National Opera
Tallinn, Estonian National Opera — Theatre Hall
About the Event
Experience the new production of Verdi's masterpiece at the Estonian National Opera.
The dramatic life story of Joan of Arc has inspired countless artists over the centuries. The score of 'Giovanna d'Arco', composed in less than four months, gives us an insight into an ambitious Giuseppe Verdi who wants to experiment and innovate, a colourful orchestration, stirring choirs and daring vocal texts. The opera was ecstatically received by the audience. The historical character is presented to us as a combination of historical precision and significant elements of poetic freedom, the most notorious of which is that his heroine dies on the battlefield instead of being burned at the stake, as was actually the case.
