Paavo Järvi, Jorge Luis Prats & Orchestre de Paris: Rachmaninoff
About the Event
Voyage across the ocean and back with Rachmaninoff's Bohemian Cappriccio, his Concerto No. 3 and a symphony written in exile. Under the direction of Paavo Järvi and with Jorge Luis Prats, this program reflects on the work of a composer and man living in trying times.
The Bohemian Cappriccio was one of Rachmaninoff's first works written during his studies at the Moscow Conservatory in 1893, when he was only 20 years old. He was well‐established by 1909 when he composed his Piano Concerto No. 3.
After performing in the United States, he returned to Russia only to later flee the revolution of 1917. Rachmaninoff, exiled, earned a living as a pianist and continued composing in exile until his death in 1943.
