Christmas concert with Jochen Kowalski

About the Event

On this evening, Kammersänger Jochen Kowalski will sing a Christmas song cycle and tell a musical fairy tale from a faraway land, accompanied on the piano by Prof. Günther Albers.
Jochen Kowalski is one of the most versatile and unusual alto singers of our time. His artistic career began at the Komische Oper Berlin where he sang many of his most important opera roles, mostly in productions by Prof. Harry Kupfer.
Guest appearances have taken him to all the major opera houses in Germany as well as to the Vienna State Opera and Volksoper, the Opéra national de Paris, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and — the highlight of any singer's career — for five seasons to the Metropolitan Opera in New York. His appearance there as Orlofsky in Strauss' 'Die Fledermaus' as well as Oberon in Britten's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' was like a sensation and made him popular worldwide.
Worldwide TV appearances, live opera broadcasts, numerous CD and DVD productions and his published autobiography have made Jochen Kowalski known to a wider public.
Today Jochen Kowalski is regarded as the pioneer of countertenor singing in Germany. His wide‐ranging artistic work has been honored with many national and international awards. He is a recipient of the Art Prize of the GDR, the Order of Merit of the State of Berlin and the Red Eagle Order of his home state of Brandenburg.
